George Vanderbilt, while visiting Ashville, NC, decided it would be the perfect place to build his home.  Built in 1895, it is known as the  largest American home.  This 250 room mansion is filled with art treasures and is a museum within itself.  It took 6 years and 1,000 men to complete this home containing 4 acres of floor space.  One has only to look at it grandeur to realize the prominent legacy it continues to uphold.
